On August 10, 2025, a fire at an AT&T communications center in Gardena severely disrupted service, knocking out the 911 emergency system for Redondo Beach. The blaze started early Sunday morning due to a trash fire that spread to a substantial facility, causing significant damage and a partial roof collapse, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fire, which lasted about five hours, was challenging for firefighters to control, with more than 100 firefighters, including a Hazmat team, responding to the scene.
